Three Kings Bearing Gifts

The Special Representative of The Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master on the Fylde Coast Worshipful Brother John Forster heard though a friend of his, Alan Neath a volunteer in Victoria Hospital, about an initiative by "Blue Skies Hospital Fund" the charity for Blackpool Teaching Hospital. Aware Christmas is not too far off and there would be patients in hospital on Christmas Morning "Blue Skies Hospital Fund" was concerned that some of their more mature patients might not receive a gift from Santa, now we all know other charities look after the children, but who looks after our Senior Citizens in hospital at Christmas. To that end the Hospital Fund started a fund-raising drive to ensure all their hospitalised Senior Citizens received a gift on Christmas Morning.

Alan Neath informed John, who decided with permission from the Provincial Grand Master, that it might be nice if Fylde Lodge of Mark Master Masons gave a donation to this very worthy cause. A phone call to the Worshipful Master Brother Peter Lonican, the Charity Steward Worshipful Brother Peter Green and his Public Relations Man a visit was arranged for Wednesday 5th December at 11.00 a.m.

Unfortunately, Worshipful Brother Peter Green was a little under the weather and could not be there, so it was the Worshipful Master, John and me (Ernie Gavan) who was welcomed in reception by Alan. We were taken to the office of the fund-raising unit and given a warming and refreshing mug of tea / coffee, it was a cold wet morning. John gave a quick explanation of the type of charity work we do and in return Head of Funding Kila Redfearn gave a resume of the aims of "Blue Skies". After a couple of photographs and many thank you's we made our way home feeling well satisfied at our mornings work.
